What happens after you refer
- The referrals team reviews the submission and checks whether anything further is needed.

- Patients are offered an appointment with the right CHC service for their needs.
- Any follow-up correspondence is shared with the referrer where appropriate.
Funding information
Insurance and self-pay
Patients can still be referred even if they intend to self-pay. If they plan to use private medical insurance, it helps to include the insurer and any authorisation details if already available.
Insurance eligibility, excesses and pre-authorisation requirements vary between policies and services, so patients should confirm cover directly with their insurer before treatment.
For general pricing context, patients can review our prices page. Final costs and pathway details depend on the service required.
Helpful information to include
Make the referral easier to action
- Key symptoms, working diagnosis and why the referral is being made now.
- Relevant history, medicines, recent investigations and any practical constraints for the patient.
- Your preferred contact route if we need to follow up or ask for more information.
